If you’re looking for maximum reliability with minimal day-to-day management, the hardware player is typically the best option.

You can stream SoundMachine directly from a PC, as long as the computer is logged into your account and connected to the internet, it will play your selected content without issue. The main consideration is that playback depends entirely on the PC and its connection. If the internet drops, the computer shuts down, sleeps, logs out, or restarts, playback could stop. Scheduled programming must also be started manually, though once initiated, it will follow the configured timing.

Our hardware player provides a more automated solution: once content or schedules are assigned, it runs 24/7 while connected to the network. It includes an SD-card backup and can continue playing fully offline for extended periods of time when needed. Outside the US and Canada, this offline playback is designed to run uninterrupted for long durations; in the US and Canada, the uninterrupted offline playback window is shorter, and the player will resume streaming automatically once the internet connection returns.

Both options work well. A PC is simple and cost-effective, while the hardware player is a true “set it and forget it” solution.

I’ll share our player brochure and ordering guide in case you’d like to explore that option further.
