Overview
The RM8 and RM8+ players can be accessed and controlled locally from any device connected to the same network, and remotely from the SoundMachine management platform. This article explains how to use the device buttons, how to access and use the local web interface, how to manage the device from the SoundMachine platform, and what information is available in the diagnostic page.
Part 1 — Buttons
Among the buttons available on the device, the following have specific functions: Menu, OK, and Cancel.
Menu — View network configuration
Press and hold Menu to display the player's network configuration on the screen:
- IP address
- Gateway (GW)
- Subnet Mask
- DNS
- MAC address
Use the IP address to access the player's local web interface from a browser on the same network.
OK — View currently playing song
Press OK to display the title and artist of the song currently playing on the screen.
Cancel — Reset network to DHCP
Press and hold Cancel for 10 seconds to reset the player's network configuration back to DHCP (automatic IP assignment).
⚠️ Use this if the player has been set to a static IP and is no longer reachable on the network, or if it needs to be moved to a different network. After the reset, the player will request a new IP address automatically from the router.
⚠️ After a factory reset, always run a software update on the next available update hour to ensure the player is running the latest software version.
Part 2 — LED Indicators
| LED | Color | Status | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power | Red | Solid | Device is powered on |
| Power | Red | Blinking | Device is malfunctioning |
| Connection | Green | Solid | Connected to the SoundMachine platform |
| WiFi | Blue | On | WiFi enabled on this device |
| Music | White | Solid | Playing music |

⚠️ A LED bulb may burn out without affecting the player's functionality. If a LED is not lighting up, this does not necessarily indicate a fault.

How to access
- Find the player's IP address by pressing and holding Menu on the device.

- Ports: 80, 123, and 60888 (outgoing traffic only)
- Whitelist:
*.sound-machine.com - Minimum bandwidth: 1.5 Mbps recommended
- The player does not support username/password Wi-Fi authentication — it must be connected via LAN cable
- The MAC address printed on the device and box can be used for network whitelisting purposes
Part 7 — Network Reset Options
There are two ways to reset the player's network configuration:
Option 1 — Physical button reset (Cancel button) Press and hold Cancel for 10 seconds to reset to DHCP. The player will request a new IP automatically from the router.
Option 2 — Factory reset (via local web interface → Configuration) A full factory reset can be performed from the Configuration page in the local web interface. This resets all network settings.
⚠️ After a factory reset, always update the software by setting the Update Hour in the platform's Edit Device menu to the next available hour. This ensures the player runs the latest software version.
